Town Hall

"Le maire" is most certainly a "citoyen notable", alongside Philippe de Moissy the bank manager, naturally. Victor Domont dresses in elegant dark suits and walks around with an inscribed gold-coloured walking stick. He is busy all day long with so called important town affairs, while his wife Gérardine runs hotel "Chez Gérardine". Because this leaves her little time to spend with their three year old daughter Virgine, he allows himself the time to go for long beach walks with her or to buy sweets from the market stall that the bakers Mimi and Nico Saintville have outside in the summer. During the weekly council meeting Virginie sits and plays with her dolls underneath the huge pine conference table, which Angélique Cerny of "Antiquaire Angélique" discovered in an old cloister. Victor enjoys the distraction offered to him by his daughter.

To be honest being the mayor of Chareauville sur Mer is a boring occupation. Everything goes its own way and the only ripples are to be seen in the sea. As long as Jacques Le Perray continues to man his lighthouse, safety on the North Sea is guaranteed and the conduct of the tourists is exemplary. The most far-reaching decision he has to make in the near future is whether or not to commission artist Gérard Potoise  of the artist’s shop "Peintre Artiste" to paint one wall of the council chamber with an impression of the sea.

However, once a month in the summer he is completely in his element. This is when the district representatives meet in Chareauville sur Mer, about nothing in particular by the way, and then Victor can truly present himself as an authority. Of course the gentlemen sleep in hotel "Chez Gérardine" and eat in restaurant "Deauville" belonging to Anne Chailly. And in the afternoon the whole delegation lies flat out on the beach. In the winter there are of course no meetings, at least not here.
