Restaurant Deauville

Anne Chailly is a fantastic cook. She descends from an old family, which has lived in Chareauville for centuries, and inherited the love of seafood at birth. Of course her restaurant’s success is partly due to the seaside visitors who like to take a seat on the large patio looking out over the sea, but traditionally the town’s inhabitants also prefer to eat at her restaurant, especially in the winter. So for example, the brothers Pierre and Laurent Avernes from the fishmongers "Chez Pierre" eat in restaurant "Deauville" everyday. And everyday they eat the same, they don’t even have to order anymore: an "assiette de fruit de mer" followed by a big plate of "marmite de pêcheurs".

The funny thing is that in doing so they are eating their own catch, because the brothers go out to sea fishing very early in the morning. Padre Henry Thiory is also regularly to be found in the restaurant, where he enjoys being spoiled with Anne’s pastries, such as the “brioche”, the “croustade”, “feuilleté”, “terrine” or “tourte”.

In fact Henry doesn’t need anything else. Her husband Léon helps her as waiter, but prefers his work as a photographer, in which capacity he produces postcards of the town and beach together with Giscard en Julia Ballancourt from the  "Boutique de Souvenirs" Bohemian and artist Gérard Potoise of the artist’s shop "Peintre Artistique" once made a beautiful painting of the restaurant, which Anne bought from him. It now hangs proudly in the bar. As a reward he can eat free of charge once a week in the restaurant. Then he chooses  "ursine", fried sea urchin, of which only the orange inside is edible and which Anne prepares just right.
