The large barn belonging to Anita's and Guido's Edelweiss Alm Farm is Guido's domain. In the summer he carries all the hay up the wobbly ladder to the attic only to carry it down again in the winter to feed the cows and goats. On the other hand, during the winter Guido doesn’t have to go up onto the slopes with his milk cart to milk the animals, although then he is often helped by Berthe and Helena Blumberg from Bernhard's Backstube. They love milking time and going up into the mountains. They are even becoming highly experienced milkmaids.
When Heinrich Hagelkorst tells Guido that snow is on the way from the Wetterstation he brings the animals inside and is able to do the milking on his own. Milking is nice and easy in the warm barn. Then he also has time to carry out small reparations to house and barn with his friend Marty Friedenau, the local "Schreiner". Guido's and Anita's livestock is also an attraction for the ski guests overnighting with them. These are often city folk, sometimes from abroad, who are fascinated by the farming life. They sometimes make Guido feel a bit like an artist.
