"Stab Aldo" is a concept in Schneewald. It is the place where skiers meet after their adventures on the slopes of mount Humpferdell to sing the traditional ski songs and drink beer. Aldo himself stands behind the bar and taps the large tin tankards full, but occasionally, when everyone is really having fun, he picks up his accordion and plays one Schneewald classic after the other. At the back of the café is a huge block of wood, in fact a sawn through tree, where competitions in hammering the nail are held.
Daughter Jutta is just old enough to be able to help during the après ski fun. She carries six tankards a time through the café and receives all the complements about her Tyrolean dress with a smile. And meanwhile, wife Mette prepares the meals, which are served to the tipsy tourists after seven o’clock. If a lot of skiers stay on she sometimes calls in the assistance of Maria Blumberg from "Bernhard's Backstube", who is an excellent cook and can often add that little extra something to the meal. But "Stab Aldo's" main business is the après ski.
This is the opportunity for tourists to get to know the local population, which also enjoys the opportunity to meet the tourists. It gives tourists a chance to shake Marty Friedenau by the hand, a bachelor and wood worker in summer and ski instructor in winter, who virtually arrives at Aldo’s on skis together with his beginners’ class. But Franz and Jakob Friedrich from clock maker Johann are also to be found daily in the stube and "Wilhelmus der Förster" enjoys a pint there together with his son Hermann. It is noticeably quieter in the summer in "Stab Aldo". Walkers are not as extravagant party-goers as skiers, which is a good thing. Otherwise Aldo wouldn’t be able to keep up...
