Doctor and Pharmacy Inge

Inge and Henry Waldkirch have named their business "Inge". But in actual fact Inge has only studied pharmacy, chemistry and natural history and it is her husband Henry, “le docteur" who is responsible for the turnover in her shop. But she is self-willed. Whereas Henry always prescribes medicine in accordance with the "rules of classical medicine", Inge regularly, and without consultation, looks for alternative products, which she discovers, tries and buys herself.

She supplies her customers with healing herbs instead of pills, tinctures instead of medicines and herbal bath oils, herbal extracts and teas as a cure for just about anything. Of course Henry knows this, but as long as there are no calamities he says nothing. Only when one of his daughters is ill does he ban experimenting. Then all of a sudden he wants nothing to do with all that alternative nonsense and insists upon traditional medication. “Monsieur le docteur" is not terribly busy in Ville de Reidy.

The inhabitants spend all day in the healthy mountain air, if they need the doctor’s help this is usually because of an accident. For example farmer Michael Solange might be kicked in his groin by his horse, which can be very painful. Yesterday Laurine Bayon of Hotel de Ville fell down the stairs and sprained her ankle. On the dairy farm belonging to Vincent Forbach the children Esther, Dorine, Elena and Hugo spend the whole day shrieking with pleasure among the animals in the stalls, so they occasionally need stitches. But otherwise Henry has plenty of time to taste a new wine now and then at Francois Stirner's "Caveau Degustation", or to go hunting in the deep woods around Ville de Reidy, where the game is so plentiful it virtually trips you up.
